Through the leadership of the Assistant Director of Pharmacy Services and the Manager of Clinical Quality and Education, this Baystate Health leadership position is primarily responsible for the planning, development and implementation of pharmacy training, pharmacy education and pharmacy competency programs for the Department of Acute Care Pharmacy Services. The scope includes all levels of learners, including pharmacy students (IPPE/APPE), pharmacy residents, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy interns and pharmacists. Education and competency assessments topics include medication management initiatives, departmental and organizational policies, skill validation, regulatory compliance awareness as well as other educational needs identified by the leadership team. The Pharmacy Education Coordinator will ensure appropriate education and communication tools are utilized and sustainable plans and methods are in place as part of the educational plan or program. The Pharmacy Education Coordinator will have oversight for all student and graduate education programs at Baystate Medical Center. The Pharmacy Education Coordinator will directly oversee all aspects of the PGY-1 Pharmacy Program, in collaboration with the Assistant RPD and coordinate the student education with the BMC preceptors. This includes preceptor training and development, as well as program accreditation processes. The coordinator will lead the Academic Advisory Committee and serve on other Committees as necessary to coordinate education, training and communication. The coordinator is expected to work with the leadership team to develop goals that are aligned with departmental, service line and organizational strategy. Collaborates with the residency program directors to ensure preceptor development plans are in place and other quality improvement efforts are ongoing. The manager has oversight of the accreditation process including visits and final reports. The incumbent also has oversight of the planning, development and implementation of the student experiential education program and leadership for the onsite college of pharmacy professors. Serves as a liaison between Academic Affairs and the Pharmacy Department on scholarly activity. Encourages scholarly activity within the department and provides guidance to staff with respect to research design and media for presentation (i.e. poster, manuscript). Performs other pharmacist, leadership and administrative duties as assigned; this includes on-call, inpatient pharmacy staffing (when necessary), special projects and regulatory oversight (DPH, Board of Pharmacy, TJC). Conducts staff meetings, attends appropriate hospital committees and is able to react to (and embrace) change. Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations.
