About The Position

The Pharmacy Attendant is responsible for performing technical supportive assistance within the pharmacy. This includes assisting in the outpatient and inpatient drug distribution system, aiding in ordering and supply functions, and preparing and maintaining appropriate records and reports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute accurately.
  • Knowledgeable in good grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic skills in general mathematics.
  • Must not have any prior history of alcoholism, drug addiction, or indiscriminate use of habit-forming or dangerous drugs.
  • Must not have a drug-related felony conviction or criminal record.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) to six (6) months of on-the-job training is required to attain proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine clerical duties such as answering the telephone, taking messages, distributing mail, and operating office machines.
  • Prepares, maintains, and retrieves departmental reports and correspondence, including drug information requests, prescriptions, and records of issuance for scheduled drugs, syringes, needles, tax-free alcohol, etc.
  • Types letters, memos, reports, forms, requisitions, bills, prescription labels, and product labels.
  • Performs distribution and billing functions in the unit dose drug system and the outpatient pharmacy accurately, promptly, and efficiently.
  • Performs routine ordering and supply functions, maintaining appropriate records and staying updated on purchasing information.
  • Communicates effectively with nurses, pharmacists, technicians, facility personnel, and patients regarding pharmaceutical care needs.
  • Enters new physician and/or new prescription data into the terminal.
  • Maintains a neat, clean, orderly, and well-stocked work area in various pharmacy sections.
  • Participates in the pharmacy's continuous quality improvement program, inspections of patient care units, and other assigned quality programs.
  • Uses and is proficient in the operation of the pharmacy computer system.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
