About The Position

The Pharmacy Aide is responsible for patient prescriptions for the pharmacy and/or orthocare, including billing procedures and monetary transactions. This role involves handling patient contact via telephone and in person, and providing general organization of the pharmacy/orthocare department in a professional and confidential manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assists pharmacist in dispensing of prescriptions in accordance with guidelines issued by New York State Board of Pharmacy for unlicensed pharmacy personnel. These duties include receiving written/electronically transmitted prescriptions, key in of prescription data and retrieval from computer file, typing of prescription labels, retrieving proper medication from stock and returning items to stock.
  • Assists patients, in person and via telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner.
  • Collects payment for prescriptions and other items and maintains records as needed. Responsible for daily bank deposit.
  • Assists in pharmacy and orthocare billing procedures, including preparation of Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party payors and private billings.
  • Maintains pharmacy and orthocare inventory. Places orders with vendors, checks in and puts away all pharmaceutical and DME orders.
  • Assists in the removal of outdated merchandise and the return of this merchandise for credit.
  • Uses a unit-dose heat sealing system to package prescriptions.
  • Inventories and maintains all other pharmacy and orthocare supplies as necessary.
  • Makes daily delivery of medications and obtains medications as necessary from outside sources.
  • Performs filing and recordkeeping duties as assigned.
  • Performs all other duties as requested by the Supervising Pharmacist or Pharmacist.
