Pharmacy/Admixture Technician
About The Position
Minnesota Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy/Admixture Technician to join their dynamic team. This role involves performing technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control under the direct supervision of a physician within a clinic admixture room. The technician will be passionate about providing exceptional care to patients and will support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or other related health care experience
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology
- Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board Preferred (If not certified at hiring, certification with the first year of employment will be required)
Nice To Haves
- Graduation from VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program desired but not required
- Intravenous drug and Chemotherapy compounding experience preferred, but not required
Responsibilities
- Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
- Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
- Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
- Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
- Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
- Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
- Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
- Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
- Provide support with inventory control of medications. Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
- Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
