About The Position

Minnesota Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy/Admixture Technician to join their dynamic team. This role involves performing technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control under the direct supervision of a physician within a clinic admixture room. Tasks are subject to verification by a registered nurse or pharmacist. The position supports the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or other related health care experience
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board Preferred (If not certified at hiring, certification with the first year of employment will be required)
  • Intravenous drug and Chemotherapy compounding experience

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
  • Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
  • Provide support with inventory control of medications.
  • Prepares labels.
  • Files and prepares billing.
  • Basic data entry into department automation.
  • Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
