About The Position

The Pharmacist provides direct patient pharmaceutical care by dispensing prescriptions and performing distributional, clinical, educational, and informational functions for patients at both its Campus Health Pharmacy and Student Stores Pharmacy locations. The Pharmacist safely and expertly prepares, administers, and documents vaccinations for UNC students, faculty, staff, and community. The Pharmacist provides optimal pharmaceutical services, facilitates safe medication use, meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements, and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the health system. The Pharmacist has frequent, daily contact with students, faculty, and staff of the university. The Pharmacist interacts with a variety of health care professionals within Campus Health (CH) including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, medical assistants, certified nurse assistants, physical therapists, athletic trainers, psychiatrists, psychologists, support staff, technology staff, and administrators. The pharmacist provides supervision of pharmacy technical personnel in daily operational duties. The Pharmacist participates in coordination and oversight of student and resident learning experiences. Eshelman School of Pharmacy Community Practice Residents and a Mental Health Fellow are hosted by the pharmacies and health center. In addition, Eshelman School of Pharmacy students participate in an Advanced Community Pharmacy and Introductory Community Pharmacy clinical rotations at the pharmacies. The Pharmacist attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings to discuss workflow, methods, and policy or procedural changes. The Pharmacist participates in a variety of organizational committees and task forces.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy or PharmD degree.
  • Eligible for or maintains a current pharmacist license from the NC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Basic experience using pharmacy computer systems.
  • Sufficient work experience and a comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy community care practice necessary to successfully accomplish the duties of the position, including technical expertise in each area of operations.
  • Ability to lead and/or participate in a team effort to meet a desired outcome.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and make presentations to groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with a variety of health-care professionals and others.
  • Considerable knowledge of trends, current technology, and standards of pharmacy community care practice.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking, creativity, enthusiasm and vision for change, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply independent, critical thinking and judgment to anticipate and respond to the changing needs of CH staff and patients.
  • Ability to handle stress appropriately, set priorities, and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to supervise pharmacy technicians and student learners in workflow, skills, and development.
  • Excellent patient/customer service and public relations skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of pharmacy experience in a community or ambulatory care environment.
  • Eligibility for or maintains a current Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner license issued by the NC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Successful completion of a certificate program in the administration of vaccines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in using other computer software applications; e.g. word processing (Microsoft Word) and spreadsheet data entry (Microsoft Excel).
  • Knowledge of QS/1 Pharmacy software.
  • Completion of an accredited PGY1 Community-based pharmacy residency program.
