About The Position

Provides distributive, clinical, consultative, and research pharmaceutical services in a pediatric burn, orthopedic, and rehabilitation hospital, functioning as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

• Pharmacy license in California.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

• Three years of inpatient and outpatient experience.
• Three years of pediatric critical care, surgical, or orthopedic experience.

Responsibilities

• Uses appropriate techniques to prepare medications for dispensing and patient administration.
• Accepts, verifies, and transmits written, verbal, telephone, or computer-entered prescription orders from prescribers.
• Screens prescriptions and drug orders for appropriateness, including drug, dosage form, dose, indication, route, and incompatibilities.
• Compounds or fills and dispenses medications in compliance with institutional standards, laws, and accepted standards of practice. When a technician or intern is involved, independently calculates or evaluates the dose and checks the accuracy of all ingredients and the final product.
• Assists in supervising and instructing volunteers, technicians, intern pharmacists, and colleagues.
• Participates in Quality Assurance and Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees, including drug utilization reviews, target drug programs, formulary revision, quality assurance, and development of drug-use guidelines and protocols.
• Maintains and documents legally required services and records, including workload statistics, narcotic inventory and control, and nursing unit inspection records.
