About The Position

The Pharmacist plans and provides clinical support to patients and staff, along with clinical leadership and financial and personnel management within the department. The role participates in departmental quality improvement processes and requires organizing and providing care appropriate to each patient's condition. The Pharmacist coordinates and manages the pharmacy department's day-to-day operations.

The Pharmacist reviews medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness, consults with physicians and nursing staff, and supervises pharmacy technicians. The position also supports safe patient care, staff productivity, budget management, departmental problem-solving, and monitoring the growth of pharmacy services.

Responsibilities

• Review medication orders to ensure correct dose, route, and schedule, and to identify contraindications related to diagnosis, allergies, or current therapy.
• Consult with physicians when appropriate or requested to recommend therapy changes and provide drug information.
• Consult with nursing staff to support chemotherapy administration, drug therapy monitoring, and patient education.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians by delegating tasks, checking work for accuracy, communicating frequently, and using effective supervisory skills.
• Ensure staff compliance with clinic safety and health policies and procedures, and support safe patient care consistent with health promotion.
• Maintain staff productivity to budgeted standards and ensure budgetary parameters are maintained.
• Support staff in identifying and solving departmental problems and maintain professional relationships to help prevent job-related issues.
• Monitor, analyze, assess, and communicate the growth of departmental services.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement processes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
