About The Position

The Pharmacist coordinates and assists in managing and participating in pharmacy services, including medication dispensing, quality assurance, and clinical monitoring. This onsite, per-diem role supports specialty pharmacy operations in a fast-paced environment, including prescription fulfillment for specialty patients, order picking, labeling, verification, inventory management, packaging, and shipping.

The position is based at 1311 W. Sam Houston Pkwy N., Houston, TX 77043. Pharmacy hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM CST. Shifts are generally eight hours or less and depend on business needs, including vacation coverage and other projects. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary from 8 to 32 hours per week. Scheduling is generally provided one month in advance.

The Pharmacist participates in decisions regarding pharmaceutical services within their assigned scope, contributes to patient care and quality improvement, provides patient counseling and clinical support, and assists with pharmacy personnel training and regulatory documentation. The role also participates in an on-call schedule.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and at least 3 years of mail order, retail, or hospital pharmacy experience, or a PharmD.
• Texas Pharmacist license and licenses in other states as required.

Nice To Haves

• Specialty pharmacy experience.
• Experience with infusion pumps such as Curlin.
• IG or CSP certification.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ general pharmaceutical needs and plan the provision of pharmaceutical services.
• Participate in the overall plan of care and quality assessment and improvement plan.
• Receive physician prescription orders and evaluate appropriateness, including dosage, drug choice, potential interactions, route of administration, and stability.
• Supervise filling, receiving, compounding, and dispensing activities involved in providing finished products to patients.
• Ensure patient charts include allergies, height, weight, medical history, laboratory results, and concurrent medications, including over-the-counter and home remedy medications.
• Ensure necessary laboratory tests are ordered and results are obtained and discussed with the nurse and physician.
• Provide patient counseling, education, and monitoring.
• Promote patient and personnel safety by following good pharmacy practice when providing drug therapy instructions.
• Determine remaining doses on hand to manage inventory and avoid waste.
• Provide clinical interventions; assess response to therapy and compliance; review drug regimens; and report and manage adverse events.
• Assist physicians, nurses, and patients with clinical and technical support.
• Document communications with physicians, nurses, and patients in patient charts.
• Assist with maintaining paperwork required by state and federal agencies and the Joint Commission.
• Assist the Pharmacy Manager in implementing new procedures.
• Assist in training and supervising Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Interns, and other pharmacy personnel.
• Participate in Performance Improvement Projects.
• Assist with in-service programs for nursing and pharmacy personnel on aspects of drug therapy.
• Attend or complete education and training programs; review materials relevant to pharmacy practice; and complete competency and skills assessments.
• Participate in the on-call schedule.
• Perform other tasks as determined by the Pharmacist-In-Charge.
• Support specialty pharmacy operations, including filling prescriptions, order picking, labeling, verification, inventory management, packaging, and shipping.
