About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a Pharmacist to join their Inpatient Pharmacy Team. This role involves reviewing prescriptions for accuracy, ingredients, and suitability, as well as providing information and advice on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage. In a medical center or institutional setting, the Pharmacist will interpret provider orders, offer drug information, assist in problem-solving, and provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care. Duties include unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, outpatient prescriptions, electronic medical record navigation, compounding, and working with automated dispensing devices. The Pharmacist will assess the pharmaceutical needs of patients across all age groups (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) and adhere to all governing regulations and standards. The position may involve acting as a shift supervisor and requires good written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to learn and utilize new technology. The Pharmacist will provide oversight and clinical supervision for pharmacy services and support personnel. Pharmacy services at Sanford Health encompass various specialties such as acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, infusion services, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation. Responsibilities may include decentralized clinical functions like direct patient interaction, interdisciplinary team rounding, chart reviews, patient counseling, and medication list collection, as well as centralized functions such as checking and dispensing medications and overseeing the IV room.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations
  • License must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position
  • Demonstrates good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves

Responsibilities

  • Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability
  • Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage

  • Act as a shift supervisor under direct or indirect supervision by department managers (may be required)
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills
  • Learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves
  • Provide oversight and clinical supervision for pharmacy services and pharmacy support personnel
  • Be involved in pharmacy services such as acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, infusion services, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation
  • Perform decentralized clinical functions, such as direct patient interaction/interdisciplinary team rounding, chart reviews, customer or patient counseling, collecting accurate medication list
  • Perform centralized clinical functions, such as checking and dispensing medications and overseeing the clinical functions of the IV room
