About The Position

A growing healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Lead Oncology Pharmacist to oversee oncology pharmacy services and support a comprehensive infusion and cancer care program. This leadership role combines clinical oncology expertise with operational oversight, regulatory compliance, staff education, and workflow optimization. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience evaluating chemotherapy regimens, leading pharmacy initiatives, and collaborating with multidisciplinary oncology teams to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Current New York State Pharmacist License and Registration
  • Previous leadership or lead pharmacy experience
  • Oncology pharmacy experience
  • Minimum of 1 year evaluating and preparing chemotherapy regimens
  • Experience developing and implementing pharmacy processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of USP 797, USP 800, and sterile compounding requirements

  • PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency
  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP)
  • Hospital or infusion center oncology pharmacy experience
  • Experience leading staff education and training initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify chemotherapy and biologic medication orders for accuracy, safety, and clinical appropriateness
  • Evaluate treatment plans against NCCN guidelines, protocols, and evidence-based practices
  • Monitor cumulative lifetime doses for medications with dose limitations
  • Collaborate with providers regarding dosing optimization, vial-size rounding, and treatment recommendations
  • Serve as the primary pharmacy resource for oncology medication-related questions
  • Develop, maintain, and update oncology pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and maintain staff training programs related to chemotherapy preparation and handling
  • Work with pharmacy and infusion center leadership to improve workflows and reduce treatment delays
  • Support implementation of new oncology and biologic medications
  • Develop educational materials and training for pharmacy and oncology staff
  • Assist with chemotherapy inventory management and procurement planning
  • Monitor inventory levels and help minimize medication waste
  • Ensure compliance with USP 797, USP 800, and other applicable regulatory standards
  • Develop and maintain processes for sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling
  • Support medication safety initiatives and quality improvement efforts
  • Partner with infusion center providers and nursing staff regarding medication orders and treatment plans
  • Assist prior authorization teams to support therapy coverage and reimbursement
  • Provide patient counseling and medication reconciliation when needed
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning to optimize patient outcomes
