Pharmacist - Inpatient Operations
About The Position
This role is for a Clinical Pharmacist in Inpatient Acute Care Services at an academic medical center, specifically a Level 1 Trauma Center. The pharmacist will provide high-stakes, real-time clinical care during overnight hours, functioning as the central clinical pharmacist. The position involves practicing at the top of one's license, balancing independent clinical judgment with collaborative, team-based care. It offers broad exposure across patient populations and specialties, promoting accelerated clinical growth and autonomy. The pharmacist will serve as a clinical pharmacy resource, working independently while supporting a multidisciplinary care team in a dynamic and unpredictable environment. Responsibilities include leading hospital-wide medication order verification, responding to codes and emergencies, providing real-time clinical consultation, and managing competing priorities as the sole primary clinical pharmacist overnight. The role involves frequent involvement with adult critical care and limited pediatric engagement during emergencies. The schedule is 7 on 7 off.
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required.
- Virginia State Board of Pharmacy License or within 60 days of hire.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
- No experience required.
- Ability to lift/push/pull less than 20lbs.
- May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Nice To Haves
- PGY-1 residency or equivalent clinical experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead hospital-wide medication order verification in Epic, ensuring accuracy and safety across all inpatient units
- Respond to codes and emergency situations at the bedside, delivering immediate pharmacotherapeutic expertise
- Provide real-time clinical consultation to nursing staff and providers across a wide range of specialties
- Function as the sole primary clinical pharmacist overnight, managing competing priorities and high-acuity cases
- Partner closely with operational pharmacists, Emergency Department pharmacist, and nursing and provider teams hospital-wide
- Balance workflows between medication verification queues and urgent clinical interventions and bedside care
