About The Position

The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for ensuring full regulatory, legal, and compliance oversight of the pharmacy while also functioning within a Staff Pharmacist capacity for the site. This role serves as the designated pharmacist of record with state and federal regulatory agencies and maintains accountability for pharmacy operations meeting all applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and company policies. While maintaining a strong focus on compliance, inspections, and documentation, the PIC actively participates in daily dispensing operations, clinical review, and pharmacist coverage as needed to support safe, accurate, and timely medication delivery. Requirements

  • Prior experience serving as Pharmacist in Charge or regulatory lead.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an NABP-accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in applicable state(s)
  • Missouri (Required)
  • Kansas (Required)
  • Must have or be willing to acquire additional state licenses based on business needs.
  • Eligibility and willingness to be designated Pharmacist in Charge.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of institutional pharmacy experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state pharmacy regulations.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Strong written, verbal, and professional communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Long-term care or institutional pharmacy experience.
  • Experience supporting audits, inspections, or accreditation surveys.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and compliance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated PIC per state board of pharmacy requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations governing pharmacy operations, including DEA, Board of Pharmacy, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain pharmacy permits, licenses, controlled substance registrations, and required postings with support and approval from Symbria legal counsel.
  • Oversee controlled substance accountability, recordkeeping, storage, and audits.
  • Prepare for, manage, and respond to regulatory inspections, audits, and deficiency plans of correction in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and workflows align with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records, including transaction logs, perpetual inventories, and required reports.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate updates to leadership and staff as applicable.
  • Partner with the Area Pharmacy Manager, Regional Pharmacy Leaders, Quality (QAPI), and Compliance teams on regulatory initiatives, audits, and performance improvement activities.
  • Perform all core responsibilities of a Staff Pharmacist, including: Interpreting and verifying new and refill medication orders for clinical appropriateness and accuracy.
  • Clarifying questionable or inappropriate orders with prescribers.
  • Transcribing and reviewing telephone orders.
  • Conducting final verification of prepared medications prior to dispensing.
  • Providing drug information and clinical consultation to prescribers, nursing staff, and patients.
  • Monitoring patient therapy, labs, and clinical indicators, and recommending therapy adjustments as appropriate.
  • Monitoring and managing TPN therapy, dosing adjustments, and related coordination.
  • Providing patient counseling and medication review, including telepharmacy services when applicable.
  • Support daily operational workflow to ensure productivity, accuracy, and on-time delivery standards are met.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leadership to support efficient workflows and compliance-driven operations.
  • Serve as a professional resource and role model for pharmacists and technicians regarding regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Assist with training and education related to compliance, documentation, and pharmacy procedures.
  • Participate in on-call coverage and flexible scheduling as operational needs dictate.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement related to regulatory risk reduction and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support safe and effective pharmacy operations.
