About The Position

The Pharmacist In Charge serves as the pharmacy supervisor for the assigned GLBHC Pharmacy location, performing duties related to personnel management, Quality Assurance and Quality Check activities, pharmacy operations, prescription orders, rational and safe drug therapy, and pharmacy economics. This role is listed as the Pharmacist in Charge on the State Licensing site. The position involves dispensing medications, preparing pharmaceuticals, reviewing physician orders, identifying therapeutic incompatibilities, and collaborating with medical staff for integrated patient care. The Pharmacist In Charge must comply with federal and state drug laws and regulations. This role also involves controlling drug therapies, advising on interventions, organizing technician workflow, verifying pharmaceutical preparations, and managing order entries and charges. Additionally, the position requires providing pharmacological information to healthcare professionals, counseling patients on drug therapies, and working with the Pharmacy Director to develop and maintain best pharmacy practices and implement new protocols. Maintaining records for controlled substances and managing pharmacy inventory, including removing outdated drugs, are also key responsibilities. Marginal duties include adhering to infection-control protocols, maintaining a safe and clean working environment, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Current Michigan Pharmacist license.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Previous supervisory experience of Pharmacy staff required.
  • Strong familiarity with issues of compliance for state and federal regulations.
  • Computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy program literacy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. frequently.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the pharmacy supervisor of the assigned GLBHC Pharmacy location, performing personnel management, Quality Assurance and Quality Check activities, pharmacy operations, prescription orders, rational and safe drug therapy, and pharmacy economics.
  • Dispense medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Work with Medical staff to care for patients according to the model of integrated health care.
  • Comply with federal and state drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration.
  • Control medications by monitoring drug therapies and advising interventions when necessary.
  • Complete pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals.
  • Counsel patients on drug therapies.
  • Develop and maintain best pharmacy practices with the Pharmacy Director.
  • Implement changing/new protocols under the direction of the Pharmacy Director.
  • Maintain records for controlled substances.
  • Remove outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory.
  • Protect patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
