About The Position

This position supervises, coordinates, and participates in the preparation, labeling, and dispensing of medications, as well as pharmacy clinical pharmacy activities. The role involves taking a leadership role for the Pharmacist-I and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations. The Pharmacist II will maintain an interface with medical staff and other caregivers, providing information on new pharmaceutical therapies, formulary, and drug usage. Responsibilities include compounding, packaging, and labeling ointments, solutions, and bulk pharmaceutical supplies, as well as mixing prescribed drugs with intravenous solutions. The position also involves supervising and directing pharmacy supportive personnel, verifying their daily activities, and being accountable for their performance, while adhering to productivity guidelines including overtime control of support staff. Clinical duties include providing consultation and clarification to practitioners, pharmacokinetic services, and suggesting appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives. The role also participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities, collecting data, conducting quality monitors and inspections, and maintaining logs and records. Assisting in Formulary management with clinical insight for cost-effective drug therapy is also a key function. The position may involve other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the department and organization.

Requirements

  • Graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy
  • PGY-1 pharmacy residency graduation general pharmacy practice, Residence Program or Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), or other certification via Board of Pharmacy Specialties Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BPS) in general practice area, i.e., geriatric or equivalent practice as clinical pharmacist, to include 40% clinical activities as documented Director or their designee.
  • Licensed in the State of Arizona required within 90 days of hire date
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coordinates, and participates in preparation, labeling, dispensing of medications and in pharmacy clinical pharmacy activities, taking leadership role for the Pharmacist-I; ensures compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations.

  • Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners, including pharmacokinetic services; suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff, as needed.
  • Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities; collects data; conducts quality monitors and inspections; maintains logs, records, and other documentation as assigned.
