About The Position

The Clinical Pharmacist (Ticket Solutions) will serve as the subject matter expert on electronic health record (EHR) issues, workflows and mitigations with the Sioux Falls VA Healthcare System. The incumbent will receive and triage reports of EHR issues, ensure issues are routed appropriately for resolution, provide troubleshooting and validation support, and communicate on resolution outcomes. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the facility, VISN, national, and EHR vendor points of contact. Significant duties include informatics, ticket solutions management, administrative program services, routine pharmacist duties, education, and research.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) for GS-13.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions.
  • Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area.
  • Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise.
  • Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy.
  • Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.

Nice To Haves

  • Proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) if using foreign education.
  • Scope of practice required to perform independent anticoagulation provider duties.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on electronic health record (EHR) issues, workflows, and mitigations.
  • Receive and triage reports of EHR issues.
  • Ensure issues are routed appropriately for resolution.
  • Provide troubleshooting and validation support.
  • Communicate on resolution outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with facility, VISN, national, and EHR vendor points of contact.
  • Manage all tickets placed for the electronic health record and track them through to completion.
  • Provide updates on electronic health records at any requested time.
  • Build relationships to communicate and track tickets, including those directly under the pharmacy domain as well as domains related to medication safety and medication ordering with downstream impact to pharmacy.
  • Revise department-level policies and procedures related to automated data processing.
  • Assist, manage, develop, and maintain plans for downtime pharmacy operations for both VA/DoD and joint pharmacy systems during system outages.
  • Provide training documents for staff and supervisors on the operation and procedures for system downtimes.
  • Serve on or act as a resource for professional committees.
  • Participate in facility, VISN, and national Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives, including medication usages and cost-effective initiatives.
  • Provide routine patient care in clinical settings as directed.
  • Participate as necessary in a range of staff pharmacy duties, including order verification and completion, medication preparation and dispensing in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Interact with treatment team members to optimize drug treatment; develop and assess target outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively in meetings, personal conversations, and written progress notes or consultations.
  • May serve as an independent anticoagulation provider in the anticoagulation clinic as needed/scheduled.
  • Collaborate with Pharmacy management and Patient Safety on pharmacy-related training and development.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of formal and informal drug education/clinical consultation to medical, surgical, nursing, and pharmacy staff.
  • Interface with other health-care providers and administrators to ensure compliance with established pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing regarding complex clinical and technical issues.
  • May be involved in designing and conducting research studies or assist in the same.
