As a PH Environmental Health Specialist within the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.).
  • Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily for inspection duties.
  • Must be able to work in various climates both outdoor and indoors.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, assists in performing inspections, interviews, and technical reviews for an environmental health program in a public health department.
  • Assists in investigating complaints and recommending enforcement action as necessary.
  • Under supervision, the candidate will learn to evaluate programs for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations and perform public health inspections of the following: On-Site Sewage Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios.
  • Under supervision, candidate will respond to public health emergencies as requested.
  • All county public health employees are deemed essential in the event of an emergency and are required to participate in emergency functions.
  • Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily for inspection duties.
  • Must be able to work in various climates both outdoor and indoors.
  • Frequent standing, bending, walking.
  • May require occasional lifting of 25 to 40lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
