About The Position

Florida Power & Light Company is seeking a motivated Site Engineer to join our Transition & Operations Development Program, a structured three‑year pathway designed to prepare you for full operational responsibility of a solar and/or battery storage facility by Year 3. This role provides hands‑on technical experience, field training, and exposure to large‑scale renewable energy assets. The program includes Year 1 focusing on Transition Team Training, Year 2 on Operational Skills Development, and Year 3 on Independent Site Operations. Upon completion, you will transition into a full‑time site operations role, responsible for day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, safety oversight, and long‑term performance of an assigned solar and/or battery storage site. This individual is responsible as the site safety manager to ensure all personnel and equipment onsite are safe and that the site/s are in environmental compliance with all required regulatory permit requirements. Engineers on the FPL solar team will spend a significant amount of time in the field (outside) troubleshooting and repairing all aspects of our solar and battery facilities. This also includes performing routine tasks such as preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and root cause analysis. At times, PGD Field Engineer will be on-call and responsible for the Panhandle FL Sites, coordinating with the Renewables Operation Control Center, OEM’s, Vendors and Contractors as required. Engineers should be highly motivated with a strong bias for action and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's - Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
  • 2+ years experience
  • Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting project transition and commissioning activities
  • Assisting with site inspections and equipment verification
  • Reviewing construction turnover packages and system documentation
  • Learning SCADA/monitoring platforms and quality requirements
  • Observing regulatory and environmental compliance practices
  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance
  • Troubleshooting PV modules, inverters, trackers, and electrical systems
  • Supporting performance analysis, warranty coordination, and RCAs
  • Applying safe work practices, LOTO procedures, and field protocols
  • Working with field engineers, OEMs, contractors, and control center teams
  • Responsible for day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, safety oversight, and long‑term performance of an assigned solar and/or battery storage site.
  • Responsible as the site safety manager to ensure all personnel and equipment onsite are safe and that the site/s are in environmental compliance with all required regulatory permit requirements.
  • Perform a variety of routine tasks, which provide experience and familiarity with engineering staff, methods, practices, and programs.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures while using judgment when making adaptations and modifications.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing all aspects of our solar and battery facilities.
  • Performing routine tasks such as preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and root cause analysis.
  • On-call and responsible for the Panhandle FL Sites, coordinating with the Renewables Operation Control Center, OEM’s, Vendors and Contractors as required.
