About The Position

The PET CT Technologist provides Positron emission tomography–computed tomography imaging throughout Radiation Oncology Services defined as (PET/CT). This role is responsible for performing diagnostic PET/CT procedures on adult patients utilizing ionizing radiation producing equipment in the safest and most effective manner. The technologist will prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, perform venipuncture, and maintain the PET/CT area, including technical and clerical components, to ensure proper quality assurance results. They will also be responsible for acquiring, archiving, transmitting, and printing images, observing and reporting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining equipment uptime. The position requires adherence to all healthcare privacy and safety rules, and operation within the scope of practice and licensure for medication administration and equipment operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology and Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
  • 3-5 years of previous PET/CT experience.
  • Current CPR Certification, if not must obtain within 60 days of employment and kept current thereafter.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience working with a Practice Management system.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position to provide excellent customer service to both our internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic PET/CT procedures on adult patients utilizing ionizing radiation producing equipment in the safest and most effective manner.
  • Checks and prepares patients prior to PET/CT study.
  • Acquires patients' chart data/requisition and reviews both to determine correct room set-up and learn of any specific medical problems, contraindications to the study and verify that the study being ordered correlates to the diagnostic needs.
  • Verifies the patients' demographic data is correct in all applicable systems.
  • Assures patients' safety and comfort during procedures.
  • Educates patients regarding procedure, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • May assist with scheduling of patients as needed.
  • Prepares and administers Radiopharmaceuticals within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Performs VNA punctures as necessary and maintains competencies.
  • Maintains all aspects of the PET/CT area including the technical as well as the clerical components to ensure proper quality assurance results.
  • Knowledgeable in acquiring, archiving, transmitting, and printing images - when applicable.
  • Observes potential equipment dysfunctions and reports problems to appropriate individuals.
  • Maintains available equipment up-time at the highest level for patient accessibility.
  • Will have responsibilities for supplies, equipment operations and related duties.
  • Follow all health care privacy and safety rules.
  • Works under the scope of practice and in accordance to certificate/licensure in the administration of medications, operation of technical equipment.
