The PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing PET/CT and nuclear medicine imaging services within hospitals, outpatient testing centers, clinics, physician offices, and mobile imaging environments. The Technologist performs high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures, administers prescribed radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals, ensures patient safety, completes required quality control and regulatory documentation, and provides imaging results for physician review. The role includes both mobile SPECT and fixed-site PET/CT operations based on business and customer needs.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent certification from a CT or Nuclear Medicine Program
  • Active NMTCB or ARRT(N) certification
  • Active NMTCB (CT) or ARRT(CT) Certification
  • BLS Certification
  • State licensure in good standing, where applicable
  • Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Perform PET/CT and nuclear medicine imaging procedures, including functional and/or perfusion rest and stress cardiac studies, in accordance with physician orders, established protocols, and quality standards.
  • Perform image acquisition and processing to ensure studies meet the quality expectations of the referring physician and radiologist and are appropriate for physician review.
  • Understand and implement all policies and procedures related to daily quality control, equipment operations, exam procedures, radiation safety, isotope handling and transportation, and dose ordering.
  • Start IVs and insert intra-catheter needles using appropriate aseptic technique.
  • Administer prescribed radiopharmaceuticals, isotopes, and pharmaceuticals in accordance with applicable standards, guidelines, and company protocols.
  • Ensure patient safety while providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services.
  • Perform daily quality control checks and calibrations on assigned imaging equipment and complete required NRC, state, and other regulatory documentation.
  • Follow radiation safety policies and applicable NRC and state guidelines for the handling of radioactive pharmaceuticals and materials, including required surveys of hot lab areas, exam rooms, imaging equipment, and personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, regulatory, company, and customer requirements.
  • Accurately document testing results, patient medical history, radiopharmaceutical administration, and other required clinical and administrative information using the applicable EMR or documentation system.
  • Travel to client sites as scheduled; assigned locations may vary daily or weekly depending on operational needs.
  • Move, load, unload, transport, set up, and tear down imaging equipment, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and related materials at customer locations as required.
  • Prepare and inventory pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and equipment necessary for scheduled imaging procedures.
  • Operate company vehicles when required to transport equipment, medical supplies, radioactive material, and staff to customer sites in accordance with company policy, radiation safety requirements, and applicable DOT regulations.
  • Complete required documentation related to vehicle usage, mobile operations, radioactive materials, and other assigned activities.
  • Properly handle and dispose of medical and radioactive waste in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing consistent, excellent patient and customer service.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, customer personnel, coworkers, and leadership.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
