About The Position
Throw Me A Bone is a pet care company designed around the wants and needs of dogs, offering daycare, overnight, weekend, and holiday boarding, training, and grooming services. Dogs enjoy open, safe play environments where caregivers and pet parents can check in via webcams throughout the day. Professionally trained Pet Care Specialists provide attentive, loving care and treat every dog as if they were their own. The focus is on creating a joyful and secure experience so pets return home happy, well-exercised, and relaxed. Team members join a supportive environment dedicated to high-quality care and positive experiences for both pets and their families. As a Pet Care Specialist, you will provide hands-on care for dogs in our daycare and boarding facility, including feeding, monitoring play groups, cleaning kennels and play areas, and ensuring the overall safety and well-being of each dog. You will observe animal behavior, support basic training activities as directed, and follow established protocols for health, hygiene, and facility cleanliness. The role includes greeting pet parents, providing updates on their dogs, and maintaining a welcoming and professional environment. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the New York City Area, requiring availability for a mix of weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Requirements
- Strong Animal Care and Pet Care skills, including feeding, handling, and monitoring dogs in group and individual settings.
- Knowledge of Animal Behavior to safely supervise play, recognize signs of stress or illness, and respond appropriately.
- Effective Communication and Customer Service skills to interact with pet parents and team members in a clear, professional manner.
- Ability to perform physically active work, including standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Reliability, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards are essential.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in a pet care, veterinary, shelter, or kennel environment is beneficial.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; additional animal care training or certifications are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Clean & disinfect play spaces, boarding crates, grooming areas
- Provide dogs with food & water throughout the day
- Provide medications
- Provide dog walks outside of the facility
- Provide basic bathing tasks
- Supervise play areas to ensure safety & healthy socialization
- Record feedings & walking schedules
- Dedicate time to work with dogs (as outlined in our daycare training course)
- Answer phone calls & reply to emails
- Send updates to clients detailing dogs' daily activities
