About The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, performs specialized technical and administrative duties such as coordinating the recruitment, examination and selection system for classified, non-classified, and certificated employees; processes new employees; coordinates placement of limited term, substitute, and provisional employees; develops and maintains employee files; provides information and assistance in person and on the telephone to District staff and the public regarding personnel matters; and performs other related duties as required. Employees in this class perform specialized services and must develop in-depth knowledge of specific, detailed, and technical areas. Incumbents perform assignments of varying difficulty in carrying out recruitment, testing, employment processing, status changes, employee separation, and supporting other human resources areas. Incumbents are expected to perform job assignments without close supervision using knowledge of current laws, District policies and regulations, Personnel Commission rules, and bargaining unit agreements. Activities have District-wide application which may directly impact employees and expose the District to financial and legal liability. The Class of Personnel Technician is distinguished from the class of Senior Personnel Technician in that the latter typically performs more specialized projects and supervises a unit of paraprofessional employees.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalency is required.
  • Two years of full time clerical experience involving public contact is required.
  • Must provide the Personnel Commission with a copy of High School Diploma or equivalent at the time of application.
  • A valid, Class C, California Driver License, a good driving record, and use of a private automobile may be required and if so, must be maintained during employment.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $24.08 to $29.30 Hourly for Personnel Technician, Range 19
  • Salary range: $24.64 to $30.04 Hourly for Personnel Technician-Bilingual (Spanish), Range 19 1/2
  • Potential for advanced salary step placement upon initial hire, subject to Personnel Commission approval.
