About The Position

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Personnel Assistant at the Yolo County Human Resources Department. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list that will be utilized to fill this vacancy as well as future positions as they become available. This position will frequently perform tasks that support critical administrative and technical Human Resources functions such as recruitment processing and examination, maintaining the applicant tracking system, eligible lists, and confidential personnel records. Incumbent in this position will respond to routine inquiries from employees, applicants, and the public regarding employee selection and onboarding, payroll, benefits, leaves administration, workers compensation, Memorandum of Understandings, and Personnel Rules and Regulations. The incumbent will also assist with personnel data reporting and other HR programs.

Requirements

  • Completion of sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university
  • At least one (1) year of increasingly responsible full-time clerical work experience involving personnel, risk management/safety, employee benefits or other related function.

Responsibilities

  • Responds orally and in writing to routine inquiries from candidates, general public and county employees related to job opportunities, employment procedures, benefits information, and rules and regulations; refers more complex questions to professional staff.
  • Prepares regular and periodic reports relating to personnel activities; assists in the compilation of various personnel statistics and data.
  • Performs technical and paraprofessional functions associated with a variety of personnel programs including worker’s compensation, safety, risk management, pre-employment medical examinations, and random drug and alcohol screening.
  • Maintains confidential personnel records.
  • Reviews, monitors, prepares and processes countywide personnel transactions involving new hires, promotions, demotions, transfers, terminations, specialty pays and other transactions; ensures compliance with personnel rules, memoranda of understanding and benefits provider plan agreements.
  • Acts as liaison between employees, insurance carriers or retirement system to solve problems and answer questions; refers employees to the proper source for information when necessary.
  • Participates in the development, maintenance and upgrades to Human Resources Information Systems.
