About The Position

At the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, Personal Trainers are more than fitness professionals, they are leaders in strengthening community through healthy living. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality coaching, building meaningful member relationships, and creating a positive, engaging environment that supports every individual’s journey in spirit, mind, and body. Personal Trainers provide personalized guidance, education, and accountability while contributing to member retention, program growth, and the overall YMCA mission.

Requirements

  • Nationally recognized Personal Training Certification (IOM AHHPS, ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, etc.)
  • Current CPR/AED/O₂ certification
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coach a wide range of populations and abilities
  • Passion for health, wellness, and community impact
  • Complete Hazardous Communications, Harassment Prevention, Blood-borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention training and attend Living Our Cause/Engaging our members at time of hire
  • Maintain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer every year
  • Maintain First Aid and Oxygen Certification every 2 years
  • Blood-borne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year
  • Maintain HIPAA every year
  • Maintain national accredited Personal Training Certification

  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Build authentic relationships with members through consistent presence and interaction on the wellness floor
  • Provide coaching, encouragement, and education to support safe and effective movement
  • Deliver a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating environment for all members
  • Actively support new member onboarding through Jump Starts and initial consultations
  • Design and deliver individualized training programs aligned with member goals, abilities, and health history
  • Execute sessions that include: Warm-up and movement preparation, Strength, conditioning, and/or performance training, Cool-down and recovery strategies
  • Provide regressions, progressions, and modifications as needed
  • Integrate functional, multi-planar, and movement-based training principles
  • Reassess and evolve programs regularly to ensure continued progress
  • Conduct structured onboarding sessions that include: Movement readiness assessments (mobility, stability, balance), Goal setting and lifestyle discussion, Equipment introduction and facility orientation
  • Clearly communicate next steps and training options
  • Follow up with members to reinforce engagement and support ongoing participation
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients and members
  • Provide timely follow-up after sessions and missed appointments
  • Support long-term member success through accountability and goal tracking
  • Reconnect with inactive clients and maintain ongoing engagement
  • Maintain accurate availability and session scheduling within YMCA systems
  • Ensure all sessions are properly scheduled, documented, and completed
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled sessions
  • Deliver full session value with professionalism and attention
  • Collaborate with Healthy Living Directors and team members to support member success
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing education
  • Maintain timely and professional communication across all YMCA platforms
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive team culture
  • Represent the YMCA mission and values both inside and outside the facility
  • Participate in community events, outreach, and member engagement initiatives
  • Support YMCA programs, events, and wellness initiatives
  • Ensure all training is conducted safely and within scope of practice
  • Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Hold current required certifications (CPR/AED/O₂ and nationally recognized certification)
  • Report incidents, injuries, or concerns in a timely manner
