About The Position

One (1) regular part time Personal Support Worker position is available at Groves Memorial Community Hospital. You will be an integral part of a collaborative and inter-disciplinary team focused on delivering exemplary care to our patients. This position is unionized with UNIFOR Service.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved Personal Support Worker (PSW) Diploma/Certification from a recognized program
  • CPR certificate at the Heart Saver Level and Standard First Aid
  • Previous experience in assisting patients with basic personal care needed
  • Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
  • Knowledgeable regarding the scope of practice for various job categories
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and general public
  • Basic computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Capable of working independently and able to take direction
  • Knowledge of principles of medical asepsis and universal precautions
  • Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
  • Willing to work flexible hours
  • Satisfactory performance and attendance required
  • Satisfactory Reference Checks required prior to start date
  • Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one to two years of related experience in a health care setting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient care by having a strong focus on client safety and ethical standards.
  • Develops respectful working relationships with patients and families to meet their care needs.
  • Is respectful of the dignity and the individuality of each patient.
  • Provides personal care that meets the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each patient - including, but not limited to, preventative skin care, hygiene, grooming and dressing, nutrition, use and care of adaptive aids/prosthesis; elimination and toileting.
  • Observes, assesses, and reports changes in patients’ behaviors and activities.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Assists and attends to special needs of the patients.
  • Escorts patients into diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Collects and monitors patient information.
  • Takes the patient’s height and weight and documenting the care given accordingly.
  • Assists with appropriate levels of supervision of patients.
  • Maintains the safety and comfort of patients by ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors and adhering to hospital infection control measures.
