About The Position

Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) is a thriving community hospital that provides acute care services including Emergency, Surgery, Medicine, Women’s and Children’s Health, Intensive Care, Mental Health, and Inpatient Rehabilitation. The Personal Support Worker (PSW) position is a full-time contract ending December 2026, reporting to the Manager. The PSW provides personal care for patients and supports patient flow within the surgical department. This role requires effective communication with patients, staff, and families, and providing excellent customer service. Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living pre and post-operatively, measuring vital signs within their scope of education, and documenting care in the electronic record. Other duties involve portering patients, turning over bays between patients to maintain uninterrupted patient care, and ensuring the appropriate removal of used equipment and linen to maintain a clean and safe patient care environment. The incumbent works cooperatively with team members, receives direction from Registered staff, and demonstrates professional responsibility consistent with hospital policies and procedures. The position works 1000-1800, Monday to Friday, with an expected average of 37.5 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Registered with the Health and Supporting Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSPCOA)
  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a recognized college/private career college or school board
  • Current BCLS certification
  • 2-3 years’ current experience as Personal Support Worker
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of patient populations
  • Working knowledge of routine practices related to Infection Control
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Proven dedication to an interdisciplinary team approach
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and be flexible
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada (subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation)
  • Provide the applicable criminal record check, as requested by Human Resources

Nice To Haves

  • Current experience in a hospital environment
  • Proficient computer experience and excellent keyboarding skills
  • Previous experience with Meditech system
