This position manages a personal lines underwriting unit, which reviews applications for insurance to evaluate degree of risk and accepts applications according to company guidelines. Requirements

  • College degree or Commensurate experience is required
  • 5+ years of insurance experience preferably in Underwriting

Nice To Haves

  • Management experience preferred
  • Experience in Personal Lines Underwriting and Risk Management Preferred
  • CPCU preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Personal Lines Underwriting Dept.
  • Review underwriting referrals including new and renewal business, endorsement requests and administer underwriting guidelines accordingly
  • Select, develop, and appraise staff
  • Develop succession planning and internal talent mapping & training program for staff
  • Develop, monitor and modify the underwriting workload audit process
  • Develop, monitor, and modify workflows pursuing operational improvement and provide feedback to Director on progress on underwriting objectives.
  • Answer inquiries and resolve problems presented by Underwriting staff, producers, policyholders and others
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of various projects assigned
  • In coordination with Director, develop and monitor the unit budget and other unit controls
  • In coordination with Director, optimize vendor partnerships and operations.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Product & Services, and CRM to evaluate agent needs and optimize department responses
  • Oversee the growth and profitability of the department by monitoring growth, loss ratio, and retention of the personal lines book
  • Perform other activities as required
