Requirements

  • Brings a strong Personal Lines insurance foundation across Auto, Home, and Umbrella, with the ability to apply underwriting judgment to evolving business needs.
  • Reviews existing underwriting processes, guidelines, and workflows to identify gaps, challenge assumptions, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Thinks strategically about current and future underwriting direction, helping shape solutions beyond day-to-day execution.
  • Collaborates across underwriting, product, operations, technology, and compliance to support aligned and scalable underwriting practices.
  • Connects insights across lines of business to promote consistency, operational effectiveness, and broader enterprise impact.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Ability to analyze datasets and develop meaningful insights.
  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills.
  • Possesses strong technical aptitude.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree preferred.
  • IIA Certificate in General insurance and actively pursuing CPCU or other FIG approved educational programs preferred.
  • Experience in Personal Lines underwriting, underwriting operations, product, or underwriting strategy preferred.
  • Proven experience implementing strategic initiatives across Auto, Home, and/or Umbrella to improve risk selection, consistency, and business outcomes preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Auto, Home, and Umbrella products, guidelines, eligibility, and risk selection practices preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate processes, identify improvement opportunities, and support change initiatives preferred.
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to balance risk management, customer experience, profitability, and operational efficiency preferred.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence partners and present recommendations clearly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports personal lines underwriting policies, procedures, practices, rules and other criteria to accomplish Underwriting objectives; recommends and implements programs designed to provide continuous analysis of personal lines underwriting.
  • Initiates, researches, recommends, implements and evaluates projects to support auto, fire and Umbrella underwriting guidelines and initiatives.
  • Conducts analysis monitoring of results and trends of existing programs.
  • Evaluates, recommends and implements outside investigation tools to validate information while increasing the return on the tools used.
  • Initiates, researches, recommends, implements and evaluates standalone auto, fire and Umbrella expert systems changes to support underwriting guidelines.
  • Recommends and implements system changes to improve agent and service center efficiency.
  • Acts as a liaison with other business units/partners to facilitate communication and ensure that any new projects are in alignment with operational objectives and direction.
  • Represents Underwriting on cross-functional projects.
  • Prepares detailed requirements for systems implementation projects.
  • Stays abreast of industry developments.
  • Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company published manuals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
