About The Position

This is a temporary, part-time clinical position providing individual and group short-term mental health counseling and crisis intervention for Ferris State University (FSU) students. The position will end following the fall semester (December 11, 2026). This position may not work more than 28 hours per week. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States without employer assistance or sponsorship.

Requirements

Master's Degree in Professional Counseling, and/or Counseling Psychology, and/or Clinical Psychology, and/or Social Work, and/or Marriage and Family Therapy and/or comparable mental health professional degree
Demonstrated experience in counseling clients with a wide range of psychological and emotional health concerns
Active license (or application for license pending) to practice in the state of Michigan, LMSW and/or LLP and/or LPC and/or LP, TLLP or LLPC, LLMSW
Must be able to work in a team-oriented atmosphere as a partner within the department as well as the campus community.
Must be comfortable with computer software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and navigating an electronic medical records system.
Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience providing mental health therapy preferred.
Experience working in a college or university counseling center preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide short-term individual, couple, or group counseling to a diverse student body using empirically based treatment methods and accepted standards of practice within one's professional discipline.
Provide crisis intervention, risk assessments, and safety plans for students identified as a risk to themselves or others on an as-needed basis. This will include partnering with various campus departments in handling mental health emergencies.
Maintain high-quality care coordination for clients, including adequate referrals for evaluation or treatment, communicating with involved treatment providers, supporting family members when appropriate, tracking students of concern, and maintaining appropriate and timely confidential client records in an electronic record system.
Directly report to the Director of the Personal Counseling Center.
Responsible for maintaining professional competence and license(s) by continuing relevant professional training and development in best practices.
Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated protected information and performing duties in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, legal mandates, and code of ethics.
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Participates in all other duties as requested and/or assigned by the Director.
Provides support staff functions and coverage in the absence of support staff with the other counselors.
