About The Position

The Personal Care Assistant is responsible for the personal care assistance and light housekeeping of the clients in the PALS program, as delegated by the PALS Manager. This role involves assisting clients with daily living activities, ensuring their safety, and performing household tasks. Communication and documentation are key aspects of this position, requiring respectful interaction with clients, families, and staff, as well as accurate record-keeping. The employee must demonstrate time management, maintain a safe environment, practice confidentiality, and be a team player, adhering to all facility policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Valid MT Drivers License

Responsibilities

  • Assisting clients with personal hygiene, including bathing, showering, and oral hygiene.
  • Assisting clients with dressing and managing personal items like dentures, hearing aids, and glasses.
  • Assisting clients with meals, including preparation, menu planning, grocery shopping, and feeding.
  • Reminding clients to take prescribed medications.
  • Ensuring client safety and observing for potential risks in the client's environment.
  • Implementing fall risk interventions for clients identified as at risk.
  • Safely transferring clients in and out of wheelchairs, beds, cars, etc.
  • Assisting clients with positioning, transferring, lifting, and turning.
  • Assisting clients with ambulation and walking.
  • Reporting unsafe conditions to the PALS Manager.
  • Performing various household tasks such as changing bed linens, washing dishes, and light housekeeping.
  • Providing medical escort services if assigned by the PALS Manager.
  • Reporting changes in client condition or behavior, client concerns, and safety concerns to the PALS Manager.
  • Exhibiting respectful, willing, and cooperative behavior towards clients, family members, visitors, and other employees.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all client information.
  • Knowing and following the chain of command.
  • Attending all mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
  • Keeping current on education hours and completing required education modules.
  • Knowing and following infection control and safety policies and procedures.
  • Understanding the importance of being a team player and displaying this through daily interactions.
  • Properly completing all required documentation.
  • Following the plan of care and reporting any changes or discrepancies to the PALS Manager.
  • Arriving at work as scheduled.
  • Being flexible with availability of scheduled work hours.
  • Minimizing absences and requesting needed days off prior to schedule posting.
  • Adhering to the Policies and Procedures of the facility and the PALS program.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the PALS Manager.
