About The Position

This position is approximately 20 hours a week, with no weekends and no major holidays. The role involves spending time with the elderly population and engaging in crafts and activities. Under the supervision of the Center Manager (RN) and the Total Senior Care Lead Aide, the Personal Care Aide provides assistance and attendant care to participants in the Total Senior Care day center. This includes assisting with personal care, food service, recreational programming, activities of daily living (ADL’s), and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). The aide must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to frail elderly participants according to their assigned responsibilities and care plan, ensuring continuity of quality care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a personal care aide training program approved by the State of New York or approved equivalency test.
  • Alternate training includes completion of a home health aide program or a certified nurse’s aid program.
  • One year experience working with the frail elderly.
  • Ability to assist with personal care at the center, including wheelchair and ambulatory transfer between center and van.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of twenty (20) pounds.
  • Ability to perform one person transfer under routine and emergency situations.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, pull, climb, reach, lift, and perform repetitive movements of the upper extremities.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills and equipment competencies upon hire, and annually thereafter.
  • Interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally, economically and educationally diverse populations.
  • Ability to form positive interpersonal relations in dealing with a wide range of staff and participants.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a homemaker, personal care aide, home health aide or nursing assistant is desirable.
  • Acceptable driver’s license and automobile available for use, with current insurance, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance and attendant care to participants in the Total Senior Care day center.

  • Adheres to the care plan and receives guidance, direction, and supervision.
  • Provides participants with a continuity of quality care while at the day center.
  • Assists with personal care at the center, including wheelchair and ambulatory transfer between center and van.
