About The Position

Personal attendants, both full and part-time, work under the direct supervision of a Lead Staff. Under immediate supervision, perform routine duties according to detailed instructions that include procedures to follow. This role involves providing training and rehabilitation programs to residents, documenting daily activities and medical care, communicating resident status to various parties, administering medications and treatments, maintaining the cleanliness of the living unit, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring a safe environment for residents and coworkers.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three months related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License.
  • Must have a clean DMV record.
  • Must have current auto liability and bodily damage insurance.

  • CNA or HHA or home care provider Certificate (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provides training and rehabilitation programs to residents as planned by the interdisciplinary team, focusing on self-help, independent living, and other skills.
  • Enters data pertaining to daily programs and regular documentation in each resident's record, including basic nursing and medical care, and unusual occurrences.
  • Communicates the ongoing status of each resident and their care to the interdisciplinary team, co-workers, family, and friends.
  • Administers prescribed medications to residents and provides treatments for health and hygiene in coordination with nursing staff supervision.
  • Maintains the overall cleanliness of the living unit, including household chores, laundry, food preparation, bed making, and providing transportation.
  • Lifts and/or transfers clients on an intermittent basis.
  • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and in-service meetings as required.
  • Provides a safe environment for residents and coworkers by adhering to infection control principles and universal precautions.
  • Keeps accurate documentation regarding the resident's personal money and its use, retaining receipts.
  • Responsible for therapeutic diets and menus as prescribed.
  • Adheres to the social programs scheduled for the consumer/resident.
  • Maintains a harmonious, pleasant, and positive working environment.
  • Promotes a cooperative working atmosphere by maintaining a safe, hazard-free work environment.
  • Keeps all information pertaining to consumers, agency internal affairs, and employee personnel issues in the strictest of confidence.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of in-house activities, progress, and problems with concise, complete written reports.
  • May perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief.
