About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service to Safeway customers. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary operating decisions to support profitability, efficiency, and customer service. The PIC generally supervises store employees when in charge, often at night, and also performs Cashier-Checker duties. The role may require working in multiple store departments.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and coworkers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of all positions within the store.
Ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service in accordance with employer procedures and company policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents, and supervise store personnel.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Supervise the sales floor to monitor customer service and product replenishment.
Replace stock in displays around the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe store environment.
Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronically scanning cash register to total customer purchases.
Receive customer payments and provide correct change.
Bag groceries, place bags in carts, and offer or provide carryout assistance when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
May complete end-of-day office functions.
May count out-of-stock products.
May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
