About The Position

The Permitting Manager is a leadership role responsible for overseeing a regionalized team of Permitting Specialists and ensuring the successful management and execution of permitting activities across all markets. This role plays a critical part in setting strategic direction, ensuring compliance with applicable permitting regulations, and maintaining high operational standards. The Permitting Manager collaborates closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive efficiency, support project timelines, and achieve departmental objectives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, extensive experience with permitting processes, and the ability to lead a large team through complex and evolving challenges.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in permitting or a related field
  • At least 3 years in a team management role
  • Extensive knowledge of permitting processes and regulations, including DOT, railroad, and DNR requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel preferred)
  • Experience with PDF tools such as Bluebeam or Nuance.
  • Experience working with plats and maps, with a solid understanding of construction practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and manage relationships at all levels.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Availability for after-hours and weekend work as business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for a regionalized team of Permitting Specialists, ensuring alignment with company goals and production objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee scalable permitting strategies and processes across all markets to ensure accuracy, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and adherence to project timelines.
  • Lead the review, preparation, and submission of permit packages, establishing and enforcing quality control standards from field intake through final approval.
  • Coordinate and maintain effective communication between field teams, internal permitting staff, external contractors, and permitting entities to prioritize markets, streamline workflows, and resolve issues.
  • Manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including DOTs, railroads, pole owners, and DNR agencies, resolving complex or high‑level permitting challenges.
  • Stay current on permitting regulations, construction practices, and industry best practices, implementing continuous process and operational improvements.
  • Lead and participate in high‑level stakeholder meetings to provide updates, address risks, and drive permitting initiatives forward.
  • Oversee team training, development, and performance management, monitoring metrics and adjusting resources as needed to meet departmental goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by senior management; limited travel may be required (up to 5%), including quarterly visits to regional markets.
