About The Position

The mission of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is to partner with working families, sponsors, and communities to build affordable, green, quality homes and to provide support services that promote successful home purchase and ownership. The Permitting Coordinator ensures proper zoning, variances, and building permits are obtained to deliver on our mission.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of zoning and permitting process
  • Very strong organizational skills and ability to track multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications or BlueBeam.
  • Independent, responsible, and able to prioritize work requirements and deadlines.
  • Able to meet deadlines, pay attention to details, and follow through to complete tasks.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Extensive driving around the City of Atlanta.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license, provide proof of automobile insurance coverage, and have a reliable vehicle.
  • Subject to a criminal background check and drug and alcohol testing.
  • Subject to periodic DMV checks for driving record.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and assemble all documentation packages required for permitting, zoning approvals, and variance applications.
  • Submit plans for review and track progress through the permitting process to ensure permits are issued in alignment with Atlanta Habitat’s construction schedules.
  • Coordinate and secure approvals from all applicable municipal, county, and state agencies required for Atlanta Habitat to complete development activities in support of its mission.
  • Maintain active communication with permitting offices and reviewing authorities across all jurisdictions, addressing review comments, resolving issues, and advancing projects through the permitting process to completion.
  • Collaborate with the Site Planning & Development Director and Site Design Specialist to incorporate plan review comments and required revisions into construction documents as necessary.
  • Assist with due diligence for newly acquired properties by coordinating preliminary zoning, permitting, utility, and site feasibility reviews to support project planning and development readiness.
  • Maintain project permitting and tracking worksheets and provide regular updates during weekly progress, coordination, and scheduling meetings.
  • Ensure permit timing corresponds with construction start schedules.
  • Provide input into departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures for the department and for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.
  • Provide support for reaching annual department goals.
  • Attending appropriate meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
