About The Position

Incumbents are responsible and accountable for conducting complex criminal record, mental health, and other document reviews in conjunction with the issuance of concealed handgun permits and registration of sex offenders. Provides non-criminal fingerprinting service for various jobs for the citizens of Mecklenburg County and surrounding counties. Incumbents will also be cross trained in processing concealed weapon applications. All staff are also cross trained in the Sex Offender Registration. Individual will have direct contact with the public including sex offenders and must be very discreet in handling difficult situations. All areas of the division are to remain confidential and must not be disseminated outside of the agency, so confidentiality is a must. Customer service is a key part of this position. Will also be trained in all State and Federal required areas for processing the permits and will be required to become DCI Certified and obtain a N. C. Notary Public certification. This is a very diverse area of the Sheriff’s Office that operates at a fast pace. The most desirable candidate will be a self-starter, able to multi-task, and have strong organizational skills. Required to stand for an 8-hour shift if assigned to a certain post. Required to stand for an 8-hour shift if assigned to specific post. Spanish Speaking preferred. Hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 – 5:00. Additionally, daily responsibilities will entail a cheerful, pleasant, and professional demeanor in accordance with Sheriff’s Office General Orders accompanied with a high degree of tact and diplomacy. Regular & dependable attendance is essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D.
  • One year of specialized or technical training, or equivalent.
  • Two years’ experience in business, administrative support, or criminal justice.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Criminal Justice (DCI) certification within 6 months of hire.
