About The Position

An employee in this position performs a variety of clerical activities related to right-of-way and transportation permits and other engineering-related activities on roadways under the jurisdiction of the Washtenaw County Road Commission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One to two years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in permitting or a similar office environment.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree in business or public administration is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and processes permit applications and associated documents to ensure all relevant plans, forms and information accompany the application.
  • Greets visitors at the permits counter, answers phone calls and provides the public with information related to permits and road commission activities.
  • Provides support to the Communications Associate in answering phone calls, greeting visitors and entering service requests into a computerized service request tracking system.
  • Checks permit application information for compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Routes plans and associated information to department for plan review processing and permit issuance.
  • Calculates, collects, records appropriate fees, and accounts for permit fee monies; prepares bank deposits.
  • Collects securities via a letter of credit, cash or utility bond for developers and utility companies to either work or hire a contractor to work in the right-of-way.
  • Maintains a computerized permit tracking system and variety of records on permit applications; enters appropriate information into logs and maintains logs and records of permits issued; maintains and compiles records files, forms and reports concerning permit inspection and plan review activities.
  • Coordinates the Adopt-A-Road program.
  • Assists in creating and revising forms, proposes procedures, formats, and standards for office correspondence.
  • Establishes and maintains office files, logs, indexes, control records, or other information concerning the work within the organization.
