Performs a variety of duties to support the Planning Department’s planning, zoning, and development functions. This role serves as the first point of contact between the public and the Department, greeting customers, answering questions, and referring them to specific staff. It provides specialized administrative support for the Department’s activities and staff, receives complaints, investigations, and notifications related to the Town’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The position coordinates the Town’s permitting and building inspection programs in partnership with Wake County Inspections, conducts preliminary plan review, issues permits and certificates of occupancy, collects fees, and conducts field inspections. It also assists in responding to citizen complaints, questions, and requests for information pertaining to zoning districts, yard setbacks, sign regulations, etc., through various communication methods and tracks and records community and economic development inquiries. The role supports the Planning Department’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program, including updating data, creating maps, and communicating information, and provides support to the Town’s code enforcement program. Additionally, it assists with the maintenance of the calendar for online due dates and expiration dates for fees, permits, etc., and with public noticing (including mailings and posting properties) to ensure compliance with applicable state and local requirements. The position also assists with developing, composing, editing and producing promotional materials to create public awareness of Community Development programs, and with the collection of data, compiling reports and presentation information in connection with community development program delivery. Finally, it contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
