About The Position

Bureau Veritas partners with municipalities across the country to provide permitting, zoning, planning, code compliance, development review, inspection, and building safety services. Their work helps local governments serve residents, businesses, contractors, and developers with consistency, care, and professionalism. This role supports municipal clients in the Spartanburg, South Carolina area, with candidates local to Greenville encouraged to apply. Candidates based in Braselton, Georgia may also be considered if they can support Greenville-area client needs. Occasional travel to client offices, project locations, or public meetings may be required. This role may be a good fit for someone with experience in local government, planning, zoning, permitting, community development, inspections support, customer service, administrative coordination, real estate, construction administration, or another public-facing service environment. The position combines public service, organization, communication, and planning support, with days potentially focused on helping applicants, records, research, staff reports, plan review coordination, or public meeting preparation.

Requirements

  • Experience in an administrative, customer service, planning, permitting, zoning, construction, development, public service, or local government-related role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide respectful and professional service to residents, applicants, contractors, developers, business owners, and municipal staff
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, records, and questions
  • Comfort using computers, email, Microsoft Office, databases, digital records, or online portals

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with municipal permitting, zoning, planning, community development, inspections, or development review
  • Familiarity with rezonings, variances, special exceptions, conditional uses, annexations, site plans, plats, public notices, or public hearings
  • Ability to read or learn to read basic site plans, plats, surveys, zoning maps, permit applications, or development documents
  • Experience preparing staff reports, agenda packets, meeting minutes, public notices, letters, or case files
  • Familiarity with South Carolina municipal planning and zoning practices
  • Experience with GIS, permitting software, Bluebeam, EnerGov, OpenGov, CityView, iWorQ, Municode, ArcGIS, or similar systems
  • Planning, zoning, permitting, code administration, or local government certifications
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, certification, and relevant experience will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Assist applicants with permitting, zoning, planning, and development-related questions
  • Review applications for completeness, required documents, fees, signatures, and basic information
  • Route permits, plans, and applications to the appropriate reviewers or departments
  • Maintain accurate records, files, tracking logs, and digital documentation
  • Support zoning administration, including research related to permitted uses, setbacks, parking, signs, buffers, and other ordinance requirements
  • Assist with planning and development applications such as rezonings, variances, special exceptions, conditional uses, site plans, subdivision plats, annexations, and text amendments
  • Help prepare staff reports, public notices, agenda packets, correspondence, meeting materials, and case files
  • Track deadlines, review comments, resubmittals, hearing dates, approvals, conditions, and follow-up items
  • Support public hearing and board or commission processes as needed
  • Help applicants understand requirements, timelines, review comments, and next steps
  • Coordinate with planning, building, code enforcement, engineering, fire, utilities, public works, and other departments
  • Provide professional, respectful customer service in person, by phone, and electronically
