About The Position

This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Senior Divisional Planning Manager or designee. It involves advanced clerical work processing applications for development permits and other associated services provided by the Department. The role requires excellent customer service skills, accuracy in processing applications, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

  • High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Two (2) years of experience in responsible office work.
  • Notary.
  • Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to enter data at a prescribed rate of speed.

  • Construction related work preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer Division phones and respond to callers, providing information and guidance, with follow-up and return calls as necessary for quality customer service in a timely manner.
  • Receive and review applications and requests for services for accuracy, completeness, and document all required information.
  • Perform sufficiency reviews of all applications and requests for services received through the Department's front counter.
  • Research and issue Zoning Letters, Walk-Thru Permits, Public Records requests, and other over-the-counter services provided by the Division.
  • Accept monies for permits and services as required by county resolution, accurately receipting transactions and accounting for individual daily activities at the end of the workday.
  • Review all applications for accuracy, required approvals, collection of fees, and completeness prior to issuing permits.
  • Perform daily tasks including filing, copying, restocking, office and file maintenance, permit upgrades, licensing, and other duties as assigned or directed by the Permit Coordinator.
  • Coordinate with co-workers and the Permit Coordinator regarding annual leave, lunch breaks, morning and afternoon breaks, start and finish times to ensure adequate counter and phone coverage during all business hours.
  • Participate in mentoring, cross-training, personal development, and skill enhancement necessary to successfully accomplish the Department's responsibilities and services.
  • Provide services, information, and guidance to customers to ensure a successful and pleasant experience.
  • Request information or assistance from any Department staff as necessary to accomplish assignments.
  • Assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties as required.
