About The Position

Spiniello is seeking an experienced Permit Coordinator to join our growing DC operations and play a critical role in supporting complex utility construction projects throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. This position offers the opportunity to become a key member of a collaborative project team responsible for managing the permitting process from initial application through final approval. Working closely with Project Managers, schedulers, clients, and permitting agencies, the Permit Coordinator will help ensure projects move forward efficiently by securing the approvals necessary to keep construction on schedule. Reporting directly to a Project Manager, this individual will oversee permit applications, coordinate with regulatory agencies, prepare traffic control plans, and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders throughout the permitting process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing permits, preferably within utility or civil construction.
  • Ability to review and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of construction scheduling practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience navigating the DDOT permitting process, with established agency relationships preferred.
  • Working knowledge of utility construction methods.
  • Familiarity with MUTCD guidelines and Washington, DC temporary traffic control standards.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, submit, and manage occupancy, construction, and utility permit applications.
  • Track permit applications throughout the approval process and proactively follow up with permitting agencies.
  • Coordinate with state, local, and municipal agencies to facilitate timely permit approvals.
  • Respond to agency comments and revise permit packages as necessary.
  • Review civil site drawings to develop Traffic Control Plans that comply with applicable MUTCD guidelines and local requirements.
  • Coordinate permitting schedules with Project Managers and scheduling teams to ensure projects remain on track.
  • Assist with permit-related cost estimates during the proposal and preconstruction process.
  • Elevate permitting issues and potential project impacts to management as needed.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with permitting agencies and municipal representatives.
  • Attend meetings with clients and agency personnel as required.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for project teams by providing permit status updates and regulatory guidance.
