Perioperative Support Specialist 1
About The Position
Inova Mt Vernon Hospital is hiring a full-time, day-shift Perioperative Support Specialist 1, scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The role assists with patient care by retrieving and delivering requested supplies, instruments, and equipment to operating rooms as directed by the surgical team. It requires professional and advanced knowledge of aseptic surgical technique and surgical procedures, effective communication, cooperation with other clinical disciplines, and responsibility for self-development. The specialist provides equipment support to operating room staff and surgeons before and/or during procedures to help prevent procedure and turnover delays.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support certification upon starting.
- One year of experience in a healthcare setting or in inventory/equipment management.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to communicate effectively to follow and respond to instructions appropriately.
- Ability to multitask.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience within surgical services.
- Previous experience supporting a perioperative or operating room environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with gathering, installing, removing, and cleaning equipment, using the operating room schedule to anticipate requests.
- Gather and pack instruments and sterile supplies for scheduled and added cases to support efficient surgical case setup.
- Independently access the OR computer system, select the appropriate preference cards, and print them as needed.
- Place returned and new supplies and instruments in their correct locations.
- Monitor supply levels and obtain needed supplies or report deficiencies to the Perioperative Support Supervisor.
- Perform monthly checks on emergency case carts.
- Support the PeriOp Support OR Aide as indicated.
- Support additional projects and duties as assigned.
