About The Position

This position is for a Perioperative 101 RN program designed to train individuals to become Operating Room Nurses at M Health Fairview, specifically at the University of Minnesota Medical Center on the East Bank campus in Minneapolis. The East Bank Campus is a teaching hospital with 24 newly renovated Operating Rooms, performing an average of 60 cases per day for adult patients. The team is described as welcoming, accepting, kind, and fosters a family-like atmosphere. They are seeking a new team member who is open with communication and collaboration, willing to learn new skills, flexible, able to handle stress well, and open to the challenges of complex surgeries. The program begins on February 16th and lasts approximately four months. Training is full-time (80 hours per two-week pay period) Monday through Friday, with varying hours. After training, the position at UMMC East Bank is a .9 FTE and requires rotating weekend, holiday, and call hours. M Health Fairview covers the cost of the AORN curriculum. A commitment of one year after completion of orientation is required.

Requirements

  • A current Minnesota RN license by start date.
  • Current BLS certification with American Heart Association or American Red Cross as a Health Care Provider required at the time of application.
  • Must have a strong desire/career goal to work as a RN in the Operating Room environment.
  • Current Fairview employees must have been in their current position for a minimum of 6 months and performance in previous/current Fairview jobs will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN, BAN, Master’s degree in nursing or higher
  • Previous experience in acute care nursing RN, surgical tech/technologist or as a anesthesia aide.
  • Completion of a perioperative nursing course at a community or technical college.
  • One year of nursing experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides services as a circulating nurse.
  • Responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Performs responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Coordinates care with members of the health care team.
  • Delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
  • Participates in a learner-centered and structured Perioperative 101 program designed to provide specialized skills and knowledge in Perioperative nursing.
  • Engages in learning through lectures, demonstrations, and videos.
  • Reinforces learning in the lab and clinical setting.
  • Undergoes evaluation including chapter post-tests, final examination, skill demonstrations, and preceptor observation in the clinical setting.
