The PeriOp Support Supervisor supervises assigned staff, assists the manager with coordinating and evaluating the daily patient surgical schedule in conjunction with the charge nurse, physician, and staff nurse. The supervisor ensures instrumentation and supplies are verified according to preference cards and added to case carts, coordinates special patient order instruments, implants, and supplies with material management and Central Sterile Processing Depts., and ensures appropriate specialty equipment is available and placed in each OR prior to scheduled procedures. Requirements

  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrates mastery of sterilization preparation in practical applications of a difficult nature.
  • Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering sterilization preparation services without requiring support and instruction from others.
  • Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
  • Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate medical terminology and documentation in practical applications of moderate difficulty.
  • Demonstrates mastery of preventive maintenance in practical applications of a difficult nature.
  • Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully maintaining equipment, products, or systems without requiring support and instruction from others.
  • Able to conduct predictive maintenance on core products and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists manager and charge nurse with coordination and conflict checking of specialty supplies, implants; instruments and equipment for procedures according to preference cards.
  • Performs instrument sterilization for specialized instruments.
  • Provides final additions of instruments and supplies to case cart prior to entering Operating Room according to the Doctor Preference Card.
  • Supervises technical staff and manages resources to ensure all procedures are completed in a timely manner.
  • Plans and sets day-to-day objectives for the team that have a direct effect on the results of the department or area that the job is in.
  • Resolves technical and operational problems within provided guideline.
  • Applies advanced subject matter knowledge within a specific technical area and basic management knowledge to support the team.
  • Leads/supervises a unit within a department or a small department.
