About The Position

Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is a 595-bed comprehensive healthcare facility known for providing a wide range of medical services and specialized care to the Homewood community and beyond. Our bariatric program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) as a Comprehensive Center. The campus also includes the Women’s Medical Center, providing full-service care for women at all stages of life, including gynecologic surgery, maternity, and a labor and delivery unit with a Level III NICU. The center holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission. The primary focus of this position is patient, specimen and equipment transport, O.R. sanitation and assistance with maintenance of unit supply levels.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare certification.
  • None.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning stretchers, O.R. tables, equipment and rooms.
  • Assisting the registered nurse and anesthetist in transporting postoperative patients to the recovery unit.
  • Performing operating room sanitation tasks.
  • Stocking operating room with supplies.
  • Checking, counting and stocking supplies (warmers, cabinets, bovies, substerile/supply rooms, linen and bags).
  • Transporting patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology, radiology and the laboratory.
  • Providing assistance with moving and lifting patients, supplies and equipment.
  • Reporting defective material or equipment to supervisor.
  • Assisting with positioning of patients for procedures and performs sterile gloving without contamination and holds extremities during patient preparation (under the direct supervision of the Registered nurse and/or anesthesia provider).
  • Transporting and delivering items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
  • Maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Meeting annual educational requirements.
  • Demonstrating self-direction and personal accountability for their work practice and showing responsiveness to departmental and facility needs.
  • Performing duties in a cost efficient manner.
  • Contributing to organizational effectiveness by reporting for duty on time, adhering to policies concerning rest and lunch breaks, and completing assigned duties in an effective, efficient manner.
  • Performing duties while presenting a consistent professional image in appearance, work performance and communication practices.
  • Demonstrating a positive attitude when interacting with patients, their families, visitors, other employees, physicians and other associates.
  • Functioning as a member of the interdisciplinary surgical healthcare team in all work settings.
  • Participating in Environments of Care activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the perioperative setting.
