About The Position

A sonographer uses ultrasound high-frequency sound waves to take images of the body's internal organs and tissues to assist doctors with diagnosing and monitoring a variety of conditions and diseases. A sonographer is also known as a diagnostic medical sonographer or an ultrasound technician. Operates ultrasonic equipment to produce images of the body's organs and tissues for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or high school diploma or GED and clinical ultrasound/vascular experience as approved by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in OB/Gyn.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible required. If not certified, must obtain certification within the first year of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous)
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous)
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous)
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous)
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous)
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous)
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (Continuous)
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous)

  • Graduation from a school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • 2-4 years. (Work Experience)

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in performing obstetrical ultrasound procedures preferred.
