About The Position

The Malcom Randall VA Medical Center is the flagship hospital of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, one of the largest and busiest VA health systems in the country. It is a full-service, tertiary care and teaching facility with a well-established cardiothoracic surgery program, offering both inpatient and outpatient services to veterans across North Florida and South Georgia. This position is for a Perfusionist to provide perfusion services in line with ABCP, TJC, and AHA standards, maintaining quality of care meeting or exceeding recognized national standards. The role involves assisting the Cardio-Thoracic surgical team with bypass surgeries, valve replacements, and other cardiac procedures, operating and monitoring heart-lung machines, preparing and managing cardiovascular support equipment, and ensuring sterile technique and a safe operating environment.

Requirements

  • Must be board-certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Graduated from an accredited Allied Health Education Program School of Perfusion Technology.
  • Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Must have certification in Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Minimum of 10 years with at least 1000 clinical cases, including demonstrated experience in the following areas: Open heart surgery, autotransfusion, heart lung machine, membrane oxygenation, left/right heart bypass, intra-aortic balloon pumping and centrifugal ventricular assist device.

Responsibilities

  • Provide perfusion services in line with ABCP, TJC, and AHA standards.
  • Maintain quality of care meeting or exceeding recognized national standards.
  • Assist the Cardio-Thoracic surgical team with bypass surgeries, valve replacements, and other cardiac procedures.
  • Operate and monitor heart-lung machines, ensuring proper extracorporeal circulation and patient stability.
  • Prepare and manage cardiovascular support equipment, including intra-aortic balloon pumps and ventricular assist devices.
  • Ensure sterile technique and a safe operating environment.
