About The Position

This position is for a Perfusionist at the Cleveland VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cleveland VAMC provides comprehensive healthcare services to veterans and is known for its specialized programs and collaboration with academic institutions for research and training. The Perfusionist will be an integral part of the Cardio-Thoracic surgical team, assisting with various cardiac procedures and ensuring the proper operation of life support equipment.

Requirements

• Must be board-certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
• Graduated from an accredited Allied Health Education Program School of Perfusion Technology.
• Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Must have certification in Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Minimum of 5 years with at least 750 clinical cases.

Responsibilities

• Provide perfusion services in line with ABCP, TJC, and AHA standards.
• Maintain quality of care meeting or exceeding recognized national standards.
• Assist the Cardio-Thoracic surgical team with bypass surgeries, valve replacements, and other cardiac procedures.
• Operate and monitor heart-lung machines, ensuring proper extracorporeal circulation and patient stability.
• Prepare and manage VA-owned cardiovascular support equipment, including intra-aortic balloon pumps and ventricular assist devices.
• Ensure sterile technique and a safe operating environment.
