About The Position

The Academy of the Holy Names is seeking a High School Performing Arts Teacher to plan and execute instruction in musical theater, acting, dance, and vocal instruction. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in these areas, though expertise in one or more will be considered. This role involves developing students' artistic technique, performance skills, and appreciation for the performing arts, while aligning curriculum with national and state standards. The teacher will differentiate instruction, plan performance opportunities, and maintain instructional spaces. Additionally, the role includes responsibilities as a Musical Theater Director, involving show selection, casting, rehearsal, and production of a spring theatrical performance. This includes developing student skills in acting, vocal performance, and stage craft, collaborating with staff, and managing production timelines and budgets.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuit of continuing education in the field of performing arts.
  • Experience teaching youth and leading ensembles.
  • Experience with Musical Theatre coordination, casting, and direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Strength in Musical Theater, acting, Dance and Vocal Instruction is preferred.
  • Florida teaching credential (or equivalent) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and delivers engaging performing arts instruction through assigned courses and ensembles in areas of expertise that may include vocal music, dance, musical theater, and related performance disciplines.
  • Develops students’ artistic technique, performance skills, literacy/terminology, historical understanding, and appreciation of the performing arts across varied genres and traditions.
  • Creates and implements curriculum maps and course goals aligned with National and State arts standards, building students toward accomplished levels in the creating, responding, connecting, and performing artistic processes.
  • Differentiates instruction to support students at varied ability levels, fostering sequential growth in technique, artistry, leadership, confidence, and performance readiness.
  • Plans and facilitates authentic performance opportunities—including concerts, showcases, liturgies, productions, competitions, and school community events—that highlight student learning and contribute to a vibrant performing arts culture.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to support interdisciplinary performing arts initiatives, including musical theater and ministerial music programming, as appropriate to expertise and departmental needs.
  • Develops performance repertoire, choreography, and/or artistic programming reflective of diverse traditions, styles, and cultural influences, creating meaningful and well-rounded arts experiences for students.
  • Maintains instructional spaces, equipment, and safety standards appropriate to the performing arts discipline(s) taught.
  • Balances a robust performance and rehearsal schedule with sensitivity to student well-being while advancing program excellence and service to the school community.
  • Leads and directs the High School Musical Theater production, including show selection, casting, rehearsing, and producing a spring theatrical performance that aligns with the mission and standards of the Academy.
  • Designs and implements curriculum and co-curricular experiences that develop student skills in acting, vocal performance, stage movement, stage craft and set design.
  • Collaborates with faculty, accompanists, and production staff to coordinate all aspects of performances, including staging, choreography, technical elements, and scheduling.
  • Cultivates a respectful rehearsal environment that promotes discipline, creativity, collaboration, and student ownership of the artistic process.
  • Guides students in character development, script analysis, and performance techniques across a variety of theatrical styles and genres.
  • Provides opportunities for student leadership within productions, including assistant directing, stage management, and technical roles.
  • Manages production timelines, budgets, and communication with families and the broader school community.
  • Ensures performances reflect a high standard of artistic excellence while being inclusive of varying student skill levels and experience.
  • Aligns theatrical productions with school events and traditions, contributing to the cultural and spiritual life of the Academy.
