The Performance Testing Technician will be responsible for instrumenting and testing vehicles for performance and drivability, including tasks such as Wide Open Throttle (WOT) time and part-throttle acceleration testing at various locations like Mojave Proving Ground. This role also involves equipment maintenance, calibration, tracking, and vehicle hardware/software updates and repairs. The technician will perform root-cause analysis for vehicle and equipment issues, install data collection devices, and work with CAN interfaces and software to create competitor CAN databases. Testing will occur on real roads, including remote locations, and at proving grounds. Data entry and post-processing using various software, along with confirming data legitimacy, are key responsibilities. The role also includes maintenance and repair of test vehicles, handling standard service intervals, cleaning, fueling, camouflage installation/removal, diagnosing malfunctions, and ordering/tracking parts. Test vehicle updates, including development parts, and tracking/maintaining/calibrating test equipment are also part of the job. Cross-functional support for other teams may be requested. The position involves working in shop, laboratory, and road/track environments with potential exposures to various hazards and requires physical capabilities such as lifting up to 75 lbs. and working with hand power tools. Outdoor work in extreme weather conditions may be necessary. Administrative functions like time-card and travel requests, along with additional assigned projects, are also expected. Travel up to 35% is required, primarily to the California Proving Grounds near Mojave, CA.
